Jueves el 29 de septiembre

 Hola hola Mariposas!

This morning we had our morning meeting. In Spanish we worked on our libritos de vocales and we learned some new Spanish words. We had gym and then, we learned a new letter and its sound. Today we learned the letter Q which makes the "qu" sounds.

After lunch  we read the story "The Glass Jar" and then we did an activity where we fill a jar with drawings of things that make us special. We talked about Orange Shirt Day and Residential School and then we wrote this blog.

We had a great day!

Martes el 27 de septiembre

 Hola hola Mariposas!

This morning we had our morning meeting. Yesterday we got new sight words, they are: for, and, of, a, to, it. We had picture day this morning! After pictures we worked on "I can..." math and letters work pages then, we went outside for gym.

After lunch, we learned a new letter and its sound. We learned the letter K. In science we made secondary colors by mixing primary color pastels together.

We had a great day!

Lunes el 26 de septiembre

 Hola Hola Mariposas!

This morning we had our morning meeting as per usual then, we did some Spanish. We reviewed las vocales then we started our own Libritos de Expañol.

We did some math, el numero del dia was: 12! After Math we talked about who we were running for in the Terry Fox Run.

After lunch, we had an assembly with the whole school and then we did our Terry Fox Run. Our school raised over $4,000 for cancer this year!

We had music and then did a bit of writing.

Now we are writing the blog.

REMINDER: PICTURE DAY IS TOMORROW

Weekly Parent Update!

 Dalhousie students and families will be participating in the annual Terry Fox run. The run will be held at the school on September 26 at 1:45 PM. Donations can be made online to the Terry Fox Foundation under Dalhousie School. Students are also encouraged to bring a Toonie for Terry on the day of the run. 

School photos will take place on September 27 for the Tuesday/Thursday Kindergarten group, Grades 1, 3 and 5. On September 28, the Monday/Wednesday Kindergarten group as well as Grades 2 and 4 will have their pictures taken. Please note that it will be the individual as well as the class photos.  Retakes will take place on October 17 & 18, 2022.

On Thursday, September 29, Dalhousie will recognize the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation by wearing orange shirts.    Students will also be engaging in learning around Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being.    There is no school on Friday, September 30.

Grade 1, 2, and 3 students have the opportunity to go swimming at Churchill Pool on October 17, 18, 19, 20, 24, 25. Students will have the opportunity to participate in the “Swim to Survive” program. These forms have been sent home with your child. Please fill out the Acknowledgment of Risk form & the Swimming Ability form , returning them to your child’s classroom teacher by no later than September 29, 2022. Both of these forms are required in order for your child to participate in swimming program. Thank you to our Dalhousie Parent Society who generously funded a large portion of the bussing, thereby reducing the individual cost to families.  We will require 6 additional volunteers and 1 male volunteer for each time slot for this field trip to be a success. Please see the Sign Up Genius to sign up for a volunteer slot. Only approved CBE volunteers will be permitted to attend this trip.   As we currently have a shortage of cleared volunteers in the lower grades, parents who are cleared from Kindergarten, Grades 4 & 5 are welcome to sign up.

Jueves el 22 de septiembre

 Hola hola Mariposas!

This morning we had our check in during the Morning Meeting. In Spanish we learned la vocale: U for uvas. 

This afternoon we did a cool science experiment using lemons, dish soap, our primary colours and baking soda. We learned that when we mix primary colours, we get secondary colours which are: Purple, Orange, and Green.

We had a great day!

Martes el 20 de septiembre

 Hola hola Mariposas!

Today we started with our morning meeting. Then in Spanish we worked the vocale: I. We went outside for gym nd practiced the Terry Fox Run and we got some fresh air. We listened to the reading of "The Bad Seed" and talked about how to make good decisions to be a better member of the classroom/school community.

In English we learned the letter and sound F, then we practiced printing. We went outside for recess then worked on the Where I belong - groups that I belong to poster.

We had a great day!

Lunes el 19 de septiembre

 Hola hola Mariposas!

This morning we had our morning meeting. We got jobs for the week. There is also a new special "Ayudante del dia" who gets to sit in the rocking chair and help Srta. Houde all day. We got to name our table groups. Our groups are called: Gatos, Rojo, Rosado, Morado y Verde. We also got a materials box for our groups to take care of. 

In math we did el numero del dia which was ocho! We played a fun game in gym called "Poisonous Frog". In English we learned the letter and soud "D". after lunch we had a moment of silence for our majesty the Queen. We went to music then we drew our families!

Parent Update!

 On Monday, September 19, Dalhousie School will observe a moment of silence in to mark the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. All CBE School and workplaces will remain open as scheduled.

Please see the separate email that was sent regarding Parent Teacher Interviews, which will be held on Thursday, September 22 and Friday, September 23.   The conference booking application is currently experience technical issues and you may not be able to book at the initially indicated time.  We thank you for your patience.

Due to Parent Teacher Interviews, there is no school for all students on Friday, September 23.  It is a full day of school for all students, including Tuesday/Thursday Kindergarten students on Thursday, September 22.

 Hola hola Mariposas!

Srta. Houde was back today because she found her voice! In Art, we worked on colouring our Terry Fox shoes using only red, yellow, and blue - the primary colours! In Math, we learned about even and odd numbers and practiced counting by 2s in Spanish. We also played number Bingo. In Spanish we also wrote a bit more about ourselves in our Así soy yo booklets.

 Hola hola Mariposas!

This morning we had our morning meeting and then we started a Spanish book about me called : "Así soy yo." In math el numero del dis was cinco! We went outside for gym and practiced the Terry Fox run around the field. We learned the letter B and practiced printing it.

In Social we talked about our communities and the groups that we belong to!

Srta. Houde lost her voice completely!

Lunes el 12 de septiembre

 Hola hola Mariposas!

This mornign we did our morning meeting. Srta Houde forgot to do the days of the week! We have lots of body breaks throughout the day.In Math we worked on the number of the day: cuatro!! In gym we talked about Terry Fox and we practiced running laps for the school Terry Fox run at the end of the month. 

After lunch we oracticed Reading with a partner and we learned about the letter P. We practiced printing upper and lower case P's then we went outside for recess. We had music when signed our class contract.

 Hola hola Mariposas!

This morning we started our day with the Morning Meeting. Then, we practiced our colours and worked on an animal colouring sheet. Then we went to the Welcome Assembly in the gym with the entire school.

After Nutrition Break, we presented some more "Bags About Me" then we went to Music with Srta. Carcamo's class. Last, we talked about Respect and our Class Contract. We agreed to Respect, Each other, Respect the Environment, and to Respect Ourselves. 

We had a great day!

Jueves el 7 de septiembre

 Hola hola Mariposas!

This morning we had our morning meeting and we talked about Las emociones (our feelings). We talked about el monstruo de colores. I Math we worked on representing the number 3. After Math we went to the gym and practiced walking in and lining up in rows because we have an assembly tomorrow. 

This afternoon we did some more presentations of "All About Me" and we had a school-wide fire drill. It surprised us!

Martes el 6 de septiembre

 Hola hola Mariposas!

This morning we had our morning meeting. We learned about our classroom jobs and we each got a job for the week. In Math we worked on the number of the day which was numero 1! After 
Math we went to gym and learned about the expectations and rules in the gym. We came back to the classroom and atched the story "My Mouth is a Volcano" and we talked about controlling our mouths so that we don't interrupt the person who is speaking. 

After lunch we talked about the Student Code of Conduct. In Social some students presented their bags and artifacts for "All About Me." We learned lots about our friends today.

We had a GREAT day!

Viernes el 2 de septiembre

 Hola hola Mariposas!

This morning we practiced playing with the tubs during soft entry. When the bell rang we cleaned up and were ready to sit down at our imaginary carpet for our morning meeting. Srta Houde read us the book "Our Class is a Family", then we drew a picture of our families and presented them to our classroom. After Nutrition Break we discussed and practiced doing a lockdown.

There is no school on Monday because it is a long weekend!

Parents, the students were sent home with a paper bag. For our "All About Me Bag" please help them find four objects that fit int he bag that they can present about themselves to the class. For example: a spatula - "because I like cooking."

We will be presenting our bags in class next week. Thank you for your help!
